The first of 3 songs written in 2024 for the Studio 36 Exeter THINK CHAIR exhibition. The song was inspired by my recent medical treatment.

Choose a chair, there are many
We’re not busy until later
Settle down we will measure
Your blood pressure and your pulse
How are you? We were wondering
If you think you’ll get better
Choose a chair, it won’t bite you
It is fixed to the floor

I am fine now you’re asking
And this seat cushions me
And I’m sure I’ll get better
Thanks to your empathy
How are you? You have worked here
For a long time that is clear
Choose a chair find a patient
Have a word in their ear
I never thought that I would be someone who ever needed all this help
I always took for granted all the things you take for granted like your health
I never thought that I would be someone who ever needed TLC
Always too impatient and a little bit complacent that was me

Choose a chair, find the profile.
Of the life you want to live
Choose a style grab a costume
Wear it well if it fits
Making sure, it will fit
And reserve your indignation
For the tyrant and the cheat
Choose a chair, this is your station
This is where you’re meant to be
Choose a chair, your vocation
This is where you’re meant to be
