The Wood
There’s a place we go it’s not so far
Friends are all around
Some are tall and some push down
Deep into the ground
We are visitors we don’t stay long
Compared to ancient neighbours
But we like it there and feel so strong
Certain and courageous
Take me down to the wood and I’ll sing you a love song
Take me down to the wood tonight
I knew someone, she was never wrong
Like a fool I tried to change her
She danced with me round a Devon tree
And soon I was in danger
Take me down to the wood and I’ll sing you a love song
Take me down to the wood tonight
Take me down to the wood and I’ll sing you a love song
Take me down to the wood tonight
Leaves and branches block my view
Walking down this avenue
Where every destination is unclear
And I will make my living here
Though I’ve heard of open fields and spaces where the water meets the sky
So I’ll take my bow and my old guitar
And I’ll play for Mother Nature
When the winds of time blow far
I’ll return to end my days here
Take me down to the wood and I’ll sing you a love song
Take me down to the wood tonight
Take me down to the wood and I’ll sing you a love song
Take me down to the wood tonight
